This course is for employees of the university library only. After successful completion of this course, you will have expanded your range of vocabulary and functional language skills. You will practice your verbal competencies, learn how to write effective emails in English and communication with international users and guests of and co-workers in the university library.
Other typical library situations which will be practiced include

• giving general information about your library
• giving directions
• asking questions politely
• and dealing with problems and complaints politely

This class is intended for students who feel that they should brush up their general language knowledge. 
After having attended the course, you will be able to write short, simple essays on topics of interest and brief reports which pass on information. In writing and speaking, you have the ability to paraphrase and to summarize short pieces of information from several different sources. You will have a good range of vocabulary of most general topics and on some subject-specific topics, accroding to the course's interest. You know how to express yourself with relative ease in face-to-face conversation, as well as in a discussion on a familiar topic and more complex subject-related topics. You can give short academic presentations which will be practiced in this course. In addition, you will be able to understand factual texts on subjects related to your field and interest with a good level of comprehension and you will have the ability to understand the main points and information content of the majority of recorded or broadcast audio material on topics of personal interest spoken in clear standard speech.

This class will work with two books: Language Leader Intermediate and Upper-Intermediate (2008), Pearson-Longman.
